Jennifer Lopez announced September 24th that she’d be donating 1 million dollars to Puerto Rico with money from her Vegas show. Jennifer and Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke to the press to remind the world that Puerto Rico is in fact a US state, and has been since 1898 following the Spanish American War. While the latter doesn’t really matter in time of need, folks tend to help their own faster than not, so this reminder was needed.

A native of New York Jennifer Lopez is Puerto Rican coming from two Puerto Rican parents. One of the most recognizable faces on Earth, a legend in the Puerto Rican community and one of the most successful Puerto Rican’s Jennifer’s pledge is important. Even though she plans to give 1 million, Puerto Rico has experienced a hardship that will need much more from the U.S and us. She’s got the ball rolling and its our job to continue.
